Right Care, Right Person

Right Care, Right Person is a national approach designed to make sure people in crisis—especially those with mental health needs—get help from the right professionals. Instead of the police being the first to respond to situations that are more about health or wellbeing than crime, this approach ensures that trained health and social care workers step in. The goal is to provide more compassionate, appropriate support and reduce the pressure on police officers, who may not have the specialist training needed for these situations.

This new way of working brings together the NHS, local councils, and other services to respond more effectively and safely. It’s already being used in some areas, like Dorset, where it’s helping both adults and children get the care they need more quickly. The approach also includes checks and oversight to make sure it’s working well and keeping people safe. Overall, it’s about making sure everyone gets the right care, from the right person, at the right time.
